Edith Ann Chandler Sellers
July 4, 1940 – August 29, 2026
Edith Ann Chandler Sellers was born on July 4, 1940, in Bakersfield, California, to Reverend Isaac Chandler and Lillie Mae Chandler, whose family roots were in Boley, Oklahoma. The fourth eldest of fifteen children, Edith was raised in a family deeply rooted in faith, love, and service.
From an early age, Edith demonstrated a heart for others. As a young girl, she accompanied her father as he visited the sick and those in jail, singing while he prayed.
Edith attended California State University, Long Beach, where she studied sociology and psychology. She dedicated many years of her professional life to social services and the State of California. Her commitment to helping others extended to her church and community, where she supported programs providing food, clothing, tutoring, and assistance to disadvantaged youth and served with Wesley Social Center.
On June 24, 1961, Edith married John Wesley Sellers. Together they built a loving family and became the parents of five children—two sons and three daughters. Her family later grew to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she deeply loved.
Affectionately known as “Smiles,” Edith was a gifted storyteller, family historian, and artist. She painted portraits of her children, treasured her siblings, and had an extraordinary ability to remember and preserve her family’s history. Her favorite flower was the sunflower—a fitting symbol for a woman whose faith, warmth, strength, and love brought light to those around her.
Edith departed this life on August 29, 2026. She leaves a beautiful legacy of faith, family, service, creativity, and love that will continue through the generations.
She will be deeply loved, greatly missed, and forever remembered.
