Ollie Mae
Townsend
August 26, 1936 – February 26, 2026
Ollie Mae Townsend was born on August 26, 1936, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Mary McCoy and Hezaky
Montgomery. She was raised with strong values of faith, hard work, and love for family that remained with
her throughout her life.
In 1953, Ollie moved to Bakersfield, California with her first son, Sonny, in search of greater opportunities
and a brighter future for her family. Bakersfield became the place she proudly called home for the rest of
her life.
Ollie later married Tom Townsend, and together they built a loving family. She was a devoted mother to
her children: Sonny Davis, Larry Davis, and Fena Townsend. Her family was the center of her world, and
she took great pride in nurturing and supporting them.
In her early twenties, Ollie began a business that would become a lasting part of her legacy. She founded
Ollie Townsend’s Board and Care, a service she faithfully operated for more than 40 years. Through her
work, she cared for countless individuals with compassion, dedication, and kindness, touching many lives
in the Bakersfield community. She loved to volunteer and would often go alone to help and donate at the
homeless shelters. She loved to shop and look sharp. She made sure that having all the nice suits, hats,
mink coats to wear even for church was something she never failed to do.
Ollie was also a beloved sister. She shared a lifelong bond with her siblings: Elmira Cheatam, Willie Mae
Hogan, Robert Hogan, Willie Davis, and Eddie Davis.
Her greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, along with many great-
grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her love and legacy forward.
Ollie Mae Townsend will be remembered for her strength, generosity, and unwavering dedication to caring
for others. Her amazing style in fashion. Her confidence with her head high in any room she entered. Her
life was a testament to perseverance, compassion, and deep love for family and community. She will be
deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
