Rev. Ronald Edward Yohn

Family and friends, we’d like to honor the memory of a beloved husband, father, and pastor, who has left an undeniable mark on many of our lives and hearts. Pastor Ron Yohn, a man of unwavering faith and dedication, touched the lives of countless individuals through his role as the pastor of South Gate Redemption Center for over two decades.

Born in the quiet town of Wisconsin Rapids, WI on September 17, 1947, Pastor Ron's journey of guiding souls towards a deeper connection with God began early in his life. His father was an evangelist and church planter for much of his childhood. Although he had a calling to serve others and spread the message, Pastor Ron spent some professional time working in law enforcement, private security and ultimately settled in as a painting contractor. Pastor Ron would often donate his time painting a small local church when he saw it was in despair and needed to be freshened up. It wasn’t until he was well into his adult years that he decided to follow God’s lead and dedicate himself to the ministry. Full of love and compassion, Pastor Ron’s love for Jesus shone brightly through his work, bringing hope and comfort to those in need. His passion for the Word and his unwavering belief in the redemption power of the Lord inspired all who knew him.

Though we mourn his passing today, we take great solace in knowing that our Pastor now rests peacefully in the loving embrace of our Creator. As we reflect on his life and legacy, let us remember the kindness, mercy, empathy and love he showed to all. Through his wisdom and guidance, he shared Christ’s love and strength with not only his family, but his congregants and the surrounding community.

Pastor Ron Edward Yohn, known to most as Poppy, is preceded in death by his parents Bishop George and Elva (Sutherland) Yohn, and his only sister Joanie. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Linda, his four children Michelle, Kristi (Jacob), DJ (Tracy), and Jordan (Lupe), and his five cherished grandchildren Tyler, Liam, Jayln, Conner, and Caden. In addition, Pastor Ron had special relationships with family friend and congregant, Lori Whaley, who he referred to as “Little Girl”, and a lifelong best friend, Bruce Ketcherside, who was like a brother to him. Lastly, Pastor Ron is survived by numerous in-laws, family, friends, congregants and community members who he impacted throughout his life.  His legacy lives on in each of them, a living testament to the enduring impact of his faith and his teachings.

Let us honor Pastor Ron’s memory by carrying forward his message of hope, forgiveness, and unconditional love. May we all strive to follow in his footsteps, spreading kindness, compassion, and empathy wherever we go, and may we take comfort in the knowledge that he now dwells in the eternal light of God's love. A common phrase Pastor Ron would say is that he and the rest of us are always a work in progress and continually under construction. On February 24th at 04:06am, God revealed his plan and uttered to Pastor Ron, construction complete.

Rest in peace, Poppy. May your spirit always guide us towards a path of righteousness and grace. Let the Kleenex boxes fly and keep the basketballs bouncing as you look over us all and protect us from above. You are forever in our hearts and will forever be loved. Farewell.
