Roshonda Mashall Sumlin

Roshonda Mashell Sumlin was born on January 13, 1966 in Bakersfield, California to Jerri Ellen Neal and Henry Lee Sumlin. She was the oldest of four children. She attended Bakersfield High School, where she received a certificate of completion.

Roshonda was born and raised in Bakersfield California. She became a mother in 1994, giving birth to her son Tetris Shaquelle “Boogie” Calloway. Shonda and her son were inseparable. He was one of her greatest accomplishments, her reason for existence. In 2023, Roshonda accepted Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Kevin Edwards Sr of Rising Star Baptist Church. Roshonda was known over the years as “Dolla-Shon,” “Pepsi-Shon” and “Shonda”. Her famous words: “you got two ones and five”, “You know what I am sayin”, "can you buy me some earrings” and “ Can I get a Pop?” Let you know she considers you family. She enjoyed listening to music, watching old shows like “GOOD TIMES”, borrowing a dollar, EATING, outings with the family and drinking soda pop or tea.

Throughout the yearsShonda was faced with mental and physical health challenges. She had a determined and strong will to keep going. She loved and cared deeply for her family. Roshonda lost her battle with life May 28, 2025. She was preceded in death by her Mother and a sister Angela Brady. She leaves to mourn, her son Tetris Shaquelle “Boogie” Calloway, a brother Kenneth Casteel Sr.(Nancy), a sister Kendra Jones( Lewis), an Aunt, Uncles and host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
