October 15, 1941 — August 11, 2025

Shafter

Sylvia Marie Schoonover (Heath), age 83, passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2025, in Spring Branch, Texas. Born on October 15, 1941, in Cincinnatis, New York, Sylvia lived a life marked by generosity, humor, and an unwavering love for her family and community.

Sylvia was the beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Schoonover. Together they built a life rooted in love and shared values. Her devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Ann Jones; Elania Kurtis and her husband Chris; and Tracey Wright and her husband Steve. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Kaitlin Schoonover and her partner Todd, Noah Jones and his partner Hanna, Ciara Brewer and her husband Mark, Ashtian Wright, and Tahryn Wright; as well as four great-grandchildren (Two who she never had the opportunity to meet) who brought immense joy to her later years.

She was a dear sister to Alice Miller, Arlene Stephens, Sherry Bumgarner (Ron), Chuck Heath (Connie), Butch Heath, John Heath (Shirley), Dale Heath (Janey), and Eugene “Iggy” Heath. Sylvia was preceded in death by her brothers Oscar Heath and Donnie Heath. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart, along with a whole community of friends who were touched by her warmth and spirit.

Sylvia had a zest for life that was infectious. She began each day with a morning walk, a ritual that reflected both her appreciation for the simple things and her commitment to staying active. She found joy in visiting friends at the Shafter Press and never missed an opportunity to indulge in ice cream from The Generals, one of her favorite treats.

Her generosity knew no bounds. Whether offering a listening ear or lending a helping hand, Sylvia gave freely of herself to those around her. Her sense of humor lit up every room she entered, and she had an uncanny ability to make others feel seen and valued. Her deep love for her children and grandchildren was the cornerstone of her life.

Sylvia’s passing is a profound loss to all who knew her. Her vibrant spirit, kind heart, and joyful laughter will be deeply missed.

May Sylvia Marie Schoonover’s memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
